Frequently asked questions

  • How long will I stay at The Winslow?

In order to create the best chance of lasting change, it’s important that the length of treatment is long enough. Short-term stays of a week or two do not typically lead to long-term healing and growth.

That said, we recognise that it can be difficult to take time away from home life and responsibilities. This is the reason we have created a flexible programme that involves 4 weeks in residence, followed by 12 weeks of ongoing support once you return to home life. It is common for people to decide that they would like to stay for longer than 4 weeks in residence and it is absolutely possible to accommodate this.

  • Why would someone need residential treatment?

Residential treatment refers to 24-hour care in a secure setting like The Winslow. People with mild issues with substances or behaviours may find that they are able to make meaningful changes without residential treatment.

However, when the issue has become moderate to severe, people find that they are frequently relapsing, or when there is need for medical oversight of detoxification or medical issues, then residential treatment is a more suitable option.

  • What types of issues or addictions can you help with?

We support people facing a wide range of challenges – from alcohol and substance use to gambling and other compulsive behaviours. We have a large network of therapists with specialist training in treating a wide range of addiction presentations.

Upon assessment, we will match you with a therapist who is the best fit for your challenges and goals. If something is getting in the way of the life you want, we’re here to help.

  • Do I need a doctor’s referral to join?

Not at all. Many people reach out to us directly, whether for themselves or a loved one. You do not need a referral to begin the process.

That said, to ensure a safe and well-supported treatment experience, any medications will require confirmation of a valid prescription from a healthcare provider. Once you get in touch, we’ll guide you through the next steps and help you feel clear and supported from the very beginning.

  • Does The Winslow offer detox?

Detoxification is sometimes necessary for clients actively using alcohol or substances. The effects of withdrawal can be both uncomfortable and potentially dangerous, particularly in the early days.

If a hospital-based detox is required then our medical director can oversee a supervised detox in one of the leading hospitals in Singapore, prior to joining The Winslow for your therapeutic programme.

  • Can I use my phone or other electronic devices while I’m there?

We understand that staying connected is important. At the same time it’s important to recognise that excessive phone use can distract from the therapeutic experience.

We aim to provide a balanced approach that allows for connection but also encourages mindful use of devices, alongside phone free zones and times. Our goal is to support you in building healthy habits that reflect the realities of life outside of treatment.

  • Will my treatment be kept private?

Absolutely. Your privacy and confidentiality are extremely important to us. What you share with us stays with us. Your information is kept in secure, closed systems and viewed only by the professionals responsible for your treatment.

We follow international data‑protection standards to safeguard your records and handle every detail of treatment with discretion and respect.

With your consent we can involve the important people in your life and treatment professionals, but this will always be discussed with you beforehand.

  • What’s the accommodation like?

Our custom-built residence is designed to feel welcoming, private and safe. Each spacious ensuite room includes a private balcony with calming views of nature. Throughout the centre, you’ll find quiet corners and thoughtfully designed spaces for rest and reflection.

Residents can also enjoy the on-site gym, spa, and daily nutritious meals – part of our commitment to supporting physical health and overall well-being as essential foundations for recovery.

  • What does a day at The Winslow look like?

We offer a balanced 7-day programme that includes a mix of structured therapeutic sessions and time for rest, reflection, and personal growth.

Structured sessions take place throughout the week and include individual and group therapy, mind–body practices such as yoga, breathwork, and meditation, brain training and neurofeedback, as well as experiential therapies and themed workshops.

We also make time for supported time away from the centre, offering a variety of hobbies and interests to help each person reconnect with what inspires or grounds them. This might include activities like photography, nature walks, or more adventurous pursuits such as indoor climbing or dragon boat racing. These activities are combined with therapeutic excursions such as kintsugi workshops, forest bathing, or equine therapy.

  • Can my family be involved in my recovery?

Yes. We believe recovery is most effective when the people who matter to you are part of the process. With your consent, we offer support to important people in your life so that everyone has the opportunity to heal and grow together.

There are several ways your family can be involved during your time at The Winslow. These will be explained to you in detail and included as part of your personalised care plan.

  • How is treatment success measured?

We understand that success can look different for each person. That’s why we take a highly personalised approach to care. Each individual has a tailored treatment plan with clearly defined goals, which are regularly reviewed and adjusted throughout the programme.

Progress is tracked in several ways, including daily group check-ins, one-to-one reviews, and clinical observations. We also use standardised assessment tools to monitor key areas such as mental well-being, motivation, and risk.

Importantly, treatment doesn’t end after 16 weeks. We continue to support you as you consolidate and apply the changes you’ve made, helping to ensure that progress is sustained beyond the residential phase.

  • Can I use insurance?

Insurance coverage varies between providers and policies, so we recommend speaking directly with your insurance company to understand what’s included. We’re happy to provide any supporting documentation you may need to explore whether part or all of your treatment at The Winslow can be reimbursed through your insurance.

  • How do I get started?

You can get in touch by using the contact buttons on our website, filling in the contact form, sending us an email, or giving us a call. Once we’ve heard from you, we’ll arrange a conversation to learn more about your needs and explore whether The Winslow is the right fit.

We understand that reaching out can feel like a big step. There’s no commitment at this stage and no pressure – just a chance to talk things through and consider your options.

  • What should I bring?

We want you to feel comfortable and prepared for your stay. Our admissions team will guide you through each step of the process and provide a detailed list of what to bring, so you know exactly what to expect and how to pack for your time with us.
